AtOmIK TaBLe Rules & How to Play
Welcome to the first game 'AtOmIK'. The AtOmIK TaBLe is what you will use as a reference for any and all games to create words and using the numerical values, try to attain the 'AtOmIK Number Totals' within each game (at the base of each grid)
I've put this table up on it's own page as an option for you, should you prefer to print it off and use it as a stand alone - you can scale it up before printing if you require a larger version (I'm limited here)
So let me explain how to use this table and how you play AtOmIK...
Firstly, it is a modification of the 'Periodic table' complete with the elements symbols and AtOmIK Numbers. To make reference easier I've included two versions within this one table... the white cells are in numerical order, and the black cells are in alphabetical order. So if you require letters to form your words, refer to the black cells... and if you require numbers refer to the white cells - It all becomes apparent once you are playing the game!
Please print off a grid and you will be able to follow the 'how to play' rules I'm going to describe below.
HOW TO PLAY
1 - Word formation - Words are formed in the horizontal rows reading left to right and you can start anywhere in the grid... most probably using the starters I give you, but that's your choice. You use one symbol (single or double letter) per cell. You then place its corresponding AtOmIK Number in the shorter cell beneath (see 2c for further clarification about the AtOmIK Numbers and the choices you have for their use)
2 - AtOmIK Numbers - You can use each symbol and its AtOmIK Number in various ways.
a - As you see it in the table; for example Us/117
b - Flip the symbol (except the single symbols) this now doubles the AtOmIK Number; for example Us/117 now becomes sU/234
c - Whichever AtOmIK Number you use, whether it is a single or double lettered symbol, or flipped, you can give it a plus or minus value; for example
Us/ +117 (or -117) and sU/ +234 (or -234) So, therefore each symbol can have four values (it helps a lot during the game having this facility!) Obviously the single lettered symbols have only two values; for example V/+23 (or V/-23).
3 - AtOmIK Number Totals - You add together the AtOmIK Numbers in their vertical columns (in the smaller cells) which should match the AtOmIK Number Total at the base of each column (In essence, the words you use are the means to arrive at the AtOmIK Number Totals).
4 - Starters - For each grid/game I will give you your 'starters' which are already placed within the grid (unless specified for other variations of the game) and you will complete their inclusion, either putting in their corresponding symbols or AtOmIK Numbers.
5 - Hyphens - Also at the beginning of each game I will give you the amount of 'Hyphens' you can use per game. Basically they are word dividers but I can make each game more difficult by limiting how many you can use! (so beware!!)
6 - Bonus symbols - As you can see on bottom row of the AtOmIK TaBLe (above) there are eight bonus symbols. These are available every game to use at your own discretion and at any time. If you look at the example grid to the left hand side, there are eight spaces for your bonus symbols. You can make up your own bonus symbols, either singular or double lettered, but you have to use the AtOmIK Numbers already placed in the grid (but you still have a choice of +/-) These are designed to make your game easier - but do they?! It's up to you how you use them, and how many - meaning, you don't have to use them sequentially.
7 - The Principle - In short, you use your chosen words and their corresponding AtOmIK numbers to try and attain the 'AtOmIK Number Totals' at the base of each column. To complete one game, you will fill each grid using words, hyphens and AtOmIK Numbers.
8 - Tips for play - You don't have to necessarily come down the grid filling it with your words until you reach the bottom... because you might find you 'haven't got room' or 'can't find the word/ number, solution/relation' you require for any given set of cells - My advice, leave a few cells empty allowing you the opportunity to alter your word selection... or have an alternative spelling/ending for a particular word which will give you different values to play with. Above all, experiment for a game or two and get to grips with it - tally ho!
Here is another AtOmIK TaBLe for print off which you might find preferable to the one above. I've also provided two file downloads if it makes the printing off process easier.
